On April 29th, Supper Table welcomed 15 volunteers who dedicated their time to make sandwiches for St. Joe’s Supper Table. These volunteers are not friends, but have one thing in common, to help out our community by donating their time and talents. They made approximately two hundred sandwich bags to serve our guests coming to Supper Table Monday through Friday. Thank you for your kind gestures to help our Supper Table. Our guests will really appreciate the efforts making these delicious sandwiches.

On Saturday, May 12th, come on down to the Parish Hall and have a swinging good time. A Cash Bar is open the the entire event, 8 PM until midnight.

Stars of St. Joe’s Supper Table

Our evening was filled with volunteers celebrating St. Joe’s Supper Table’s annual “Volunteer appreciation dinner” held on March 15th, 2012. Sixty two out of eighty volunteers who attended this special event received a warm thank you for all they have accomplished in the past year. Supper Table also presented two appreciation plaque to Stephen and Melissa.

Fr. Stephen Nwabuike-Fr. Nwabuike is currently attending St. Paul’s University and also volunteers on Monday evenings. Fr. Nwabuike have been with Supper Table, not only learn how we operate, but also to experience how we assist our guests with respect and hot nutritional meals every weekday evening. Fr. Nwabuike will be leaving in April back to Nigeria to continue his mission to help those who are in need. He wishes to open his own version of Supper Table in his country, to help many who are in need. He was presented with a appreciation plaque, to proudly display his hard work and dedication while he was helping our guests here at Supper Table.

Melissa Sabourin-Twenty one years after being at St. Joseph’s Parish, our operations manager will be leaving us. Melissa was presented with a appreciation plaque and a poem written by one of our guest who joins us for meals every evening. Melissa was involved with volunteer coordinating and fundraising throughout the years before position of Supper Table manager was created. Melissa will continue to be involved with fundraising efforts with St. Joe’s Supper Table. Her commitment and dedication will be missed to our St. Joe’s Supper Table family.

*within a period of one year, our volunteers added enough hours to cover five full time employees……..without our volunteer we would not be able to assist those in our community.

St. Joe’s Supper Table celebrates Christmas with Community

On Friday, December 16th, St. Joe’s Supper Table held our annual Christmas Dinner. It was encouraging to see familiar faces and to share the Christmas spirit with family and friends. Eighty-three volunteers were in attendance along with 5 of our City Councilors and Max Keeping. In addition we had 20 students and faculty members from Immaculata High School. Five hundred guests joined us for this special event, and they were all smiles from cheek to cheek. Also in hall were Jamie Loback (Musical Director) and 15 members of our St. Joseph’s Parish choir. It was definitely a night filled with St. Joseph’s Parish’s family at its best.

Thank you, volunteers, for your efforts to make this holiday very special.

Ottawa Senators vs. Nashville Predators

The Ledge Carvery and Bar has been reserved for us to watch your SENS host the PREDS in the first return of Mike Fisher in an opponent’s uniform. We are also honouring the memory of Peter Hoysted, the original organizer of this event, who passed away far too soon last April. Tickets are $110 per person and include dinner and a $35 charitable donation tax receipt. It’s a great way to watch the live action, socialize with friends and associates plus support St. Joe’s Supper Table.

Cheques, payable to St Joe’s Supper Table, received by December 16th, will result in a 2011 tax receipt. You can order your tickets by replying to: Melissa Sabourin 613-233-4095 ext. 223 or msabourin@st-josephs.ca.

Hydro Ottawa helps out – Community Action Day 2011

Staff members from Hydro Ottawa participated in Community Action Day put on by United Way of Ottawa. 8 Members prepared delicious chili and spaghetti sauce for St. Joe’s Supper Table and St. Joe’s Women Centre. Thank you Susan, Blair, Jennifer, Hugh, Nathalie, Stephen, Martine and Debbie for their efforts helping St. Joe’s and our community.
